A very special visitor
This morning Evie’s Dad, Tom, came to school in his ambulance. Tom spoke to the children to explain what paramedics do and why ambulances are important. The children were able to sit inside the ambulance, have a go at sitting on the inflatable seats, look at the monitors and first aid bags and the most popular activity ~ putting the sirens on! Thank you so much, we all had a great time!
Over the last few weeks we have excitedly watched five small caterpillars grow and grow, we measured them and watched them make cocoons. After waiting for over a week, the painted ladies butterflies finally emerged. We went in to the garden to release them and watched in awe as they flew away onto the flowers and trees.
The Royal Wedding
The children have been very interested in the upcoming Royal Wedding and have enjoyed our Wedding Shop role play area. You can usually find several brides, bridesmaids and grooms dressed up around the room holding bouquets! We finished our topic off with a Royal Wedding celebration. The children made jam sandwiches and baked cakes, they also made bunting and flags to wave. We ended the day with a garden party in the sunshine where we enjoyed our picnic, some party music and playing on the grass.
WOW day ~ PIRATES!
We had a swashbuckling day to launch our exploration and adventure topic this term. Everyone had grrrreat fun dressing up as pirates and taking part in treasure hunts and other activities. We ate pirate cakes and built a pirate ship in the classroom. The children have been very excited and we are looking forward to focusing our learning on pirates over the next few weeks.
World Book Day
We have enjoyed celebrating World Book Day and didn’t let the snow days stop us from putting together a fantastic assembly all about it. The children performed with confidence and really enjoyed learning ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. Over the last two weeks we have taken part in book hunts, dressing up days, DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read) and have had fun making books and bookmarks, and ordering stories.
We have really enjoyed the snow this week in Reception. It has given us the opportunity to think about Winter and how to dress warmly. We have been practising zipping up coats and changing into wellies, hats, scarves and gloves. We have had fun building snowmen, making snow angels and even painting the snow different colours.
WOW day ~ Churnet Valley Railway
Wow! What a fantastic day we had at Churnet Valley Railway aboard The Polar Express! We enjoyed a ride on a steam train, hot chocolate, gingerbread decorating and wrote letters to Santa.
Here are some of the activities we have enjoyed during our first few weeks in Reception.
We have enjoyed our visit days in Reception and can’t wait for September!
