Posada

As part of our Advent preparation this year, we have decided to include Posada celebrations. ‘Posada’ is a Spanish word which means ‘inn’. Posada celebrations originated in South America where two children were chosen to represent Mary and Joseph. They went from house to house telling people about the imminent arrival of Jesus. A modern equivalent is based on this concept but encourages people to give a home to the wooden nativity figures of Mary and Joseph for a night. Each night throughout Advent the figures travel from family to family and this symbolises making room for Jesus in our lives, homes and communities.
